If you're not aware, I moved down the block to a bigger place. Tom also moved with me. The new place is pretty nice and once it's totally decked out I will get some photos and post them. But basically the idea was Tom and I moving in together would make LP work a lot easier. Sooooo since I got a whole new place with a shit ton of room, I had a chance to set things up the way I wanted too.
I picked up another 2 x 4 Expedit(before they lowered the price.) I also grabbed a Lack Unit which I realized about 3 weeks ago was perfect for 7"s. The setup is below..
Now for anyone that is thinking of trying to do this, I will recommend something. Buy a 1 x 5 Expedit instead. Especially if you don't have over say 200 LPs. The 1 x 5 and the Lack are the same length and depth. They will look better together I think. If I had to do it over again I would probably get (2) 1 x 5 and the Lack. Truthfully I'll probably end up having to change the whole setup in 6 months anyway. I've basically filled up the Lack, and I have LPs downstairs in Tom's Expedit with about half of my architectural books. Those are Tom's records on the top left, mine are bottom left.
The other half of my books are in my room in my final Expedit. Which is next to my bed...yes my bed. I've slept on a couch for the past 3 years. I work a lot, so I try to consider night sleeping like naps. Yeah it sucks...
As you can see I just finished my setup and I'm already screwed. I love the Expedit shelving units, but they're only good for LPs. You still need something for 7s. I think the Lack units are good as well, but.....blllaaaahhhh. I just wish I could find an all in one unit for 12s and 7s. Until then, Ikea really does have the best shelves for the money and ease of compatibility.
p.s. I'm thinking in december I want to do "my best 5 record purchases of the past decade" blog entries, just to round out the first decade of the 21st century. Probably do 5 separate posts. I don't think I could swing 10 posts in one month. I just don't think I have the time. If anyone wants to do these with me, just let me know when you're going to do it, and we can coordinate the attack. Get at me on LP or comment here. Thanks!

expedits sort of look nice but there's nothing better than some sort of bins for vinyl.. there's a reason most record stores don't keep their vinyl on shelves.. Bad for the record (when taking out or putting back into the collection) and hard to look through. The only reason to use shelves is if you have serious space constraints generally with a couple thousand LPS or more..
