Signs of Change

It's rare that I get real excited about a vinyl pick up these days. But this one definitely did it. Shutdown - Signs of Change test, off Lost and Found in Germany. Old school Shutdown. That's where it's at. My first non bulldog Shutdown test press. Pretty happy about that. Also something else that's cool about this one. It came with a sleeve and an insert. Weird.

The insert is pretty cool too cause it has the full Lost and Found catalog on one side.

So 4 Shutdown test presses. Still not as many...hmmm actually wait a second. I have 3 Indecision and 2 MPB, so technically Shutdown is the band I have the most TPs of. I still consider Indecision and MPB one of the same in a way, but I guess now that they have Rob singing, it really is a different band. And the 2 MPB tests I have are with Rob singing. So I guess that's it then. I have more Shutdown tests than any other band. Sweet.

Alternate 1985

The Back to the Future trilogy is basically my favorite movies of all time. I mean I love any movie from the 80s, but BTTF was just the best. I've also always been obsessed with time, and time travel. What's weird is maybe 4 or 5 years ago, if I had to pick whether to go back in time or forward in time, I would have picked back. But now my past doesn't seem that important anymore. I love reflecting on it and collecting mementos, but now I want the future. I wish I could remember the day I decided I wanted the future. It was probably when I got a career and realized I could do something with my life other than gamble and skirt taxes.

I think I did a post on this album already. But not this version. This is the Ink and Lead split with Sister Kisser on Gruff Beard Records. What's cool about this record is both bands are from LI and not only is the label also from LI, but they were Limited Pressing's first store. And actually this was the first record sold on Limited Pressing too. Weird. This particular version wasn't sold on LP though. It was made specifically for Vinyl Collective. And of course I missed it! Damnit. But what's really interesting is I got this one used in an LP auction ahah. So strange.

Sweet cover! First time I've ever seen this used. They definitely did a decent job. It's just a black silk screen, but it's pretty limited which makes it a really cool version.

And the flip side was a great use of the Back to the Future logo.

Just 22 made and I got 21. Screen door on a submarine, you dork.

It's really too bad Ink and Lead called it quits. They had a little Silent Majority in them. I don't know, they just had a great sound. Check them out for yourself.

Ink and Lead

ohhhhhh and that's where the name of the blog comes from, but I changed it to 95 cause that's when I started collecting.

#16 - The Backup Plan - Dearest Whomever

The Backup Plan - Dearest Whomever

Released by New Day Rising in 2003

This is the first of 2 records off of New Day Rising that I will have on the list. The Backup Plan was a band from my hometown of smithtown, who went through some changes with their sound. At first they were a punk band, but over the years they changed to more of a hardcore band. This record is basically a hardcore album. The songs are fast and sort of punk, but with Jeff's style of vocals, the album becomes a lot like Shorter, Faster, Louder from Kid Dynamite and I think most people associate a genre with how the vocals are. Or at least I do. This album really made a name for TBP. But it wasn't long after this album that they called it quits. I'm not quite sure why, but I know I was pretty upset. One good thing is they did make a bunch of music and all the members went on to other great bands like This is Hell and Thieves and Assassins.

New Day Rising released this on 3 colors. White, Black, and I think Blue. I'm pretty sure I have the white and blue, and I also have the test press. I actually have all the New Day Rising tests. One of the funny things about NDR is they never wrote anything on the matrix of the record. I've never known another label to do that. Very strange.

I think it's safe to give you guys a download on this one. It's been out of print for a while, and NDR is no longer putting out records. It's a short download so if you've never heard this album I suggest you give a shot.
