dnalsI gnoL D.O.V.

My brother has more damn V.O.D. shirts that anyone I know. It's absurd. I'm actually quite sure he has 99% of them. VOD really didn't make much merch if you can believe it. And most of what they made is sort of rare because people wore the shit of them. Never really collected and cared for them. One shirt Tom has that I love is the Vision of Disorder VOD Long Island shirt from Blue Grape. The shirt is below if you've never seen it before.

Pretty classic shirt by them. Lot of people on LI like this shirt cause it says Long Island on it. But this isn't a band a lot of people search for all the time. So sometimes shirts can go for serious bucks, and sometimes they can go for nothing. Tom got this shirt for like 13 bucks plus some shipping. Cheap. But I've seen VOD shirts get into the 50-60 range. It's all about who knows they're up. I keep my eyes peeled for them all the time, so I usually can catch it cheap or let it go. Case in point, my recent VOD shirt purchase.

The story begins about 2 weeks ago when I was searching an ebay members auctions only to find the same VOD shirt, which not only do I love, but don't have. The shirt looked like it was in great shape too. Only issue, or at least what I thought was the only issue, was that the starting price was 20 bucks. This shirt had only one place to go, up. I watched it, but pretty much forgot about it, cause I figured that if someone did bid on it, I would need to bid 30+ to get it, and I know I could just wait for another to come along. Well with 24 hours left I saw that no one bid yet. I decided to take a peak at the shirt again and make sure the size and condition was good. Well in looking it again I did notice something odd. Not really wrong...well yeah I guess wrong, but not damage. The shirt was printed backwards. Yes backwards! Blue Grape really screwed the pooch on this baby. No idea what happened but the shirt was basically unwearable. It would still be really cool to have though. I like unique oddities like this. So I decided to just let this one end and then contact the seller afterwards. That's an old trick that I just love pulling. You really need to be sure of yourself though. I've done it many times with great success. I felt like this was a great auction to try it cause the starting price was pretty high. If it were starting at 10 bucks, it would be stupid to try it. So I just waited till it ended. I was nervous cause I really wanted the shirt, but I also didn't want to spend a bunch of cash on something that couldn't be worn. Well it ended and no one bid. Sweet! Now to work my swerve. I contacted the seller and offered him 15 shipped. He wanted 25 shipped, but no one bid. He wasn't excited about my offer, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and tell him what he had. See this could have gone 2 ways. I could tell him he has a mistake unwearable shirt, and he could either say, 'Damn you're right, it's junk, you can take it for 15 shipped." Or he could say, 'Shit you're right! I should relist it with a better description and title." Well when I told him, he said, "Wow this is a mistake? It could be worth money. Make me a better offer." Then I explained to him that no one bid on it cause no one could wear it. Which is a lie really. I don't think anyone saw the auction. If anyone knew what he had, they would have bid. It's an oddity that would be awesome in LIers collection. I then offered 19 shipped and he bit. Check it.

See why it's unwearable ahahha? It's retarded looking. Wonder what this dude was thinking when he listed it. I mean I could just see the guy saying, "These dumb idiots. No sense of style. They should have put Vision of Disorder on the front! Would have looked so much better." ahaha. Well let's compare the 2 shirts now.

The prints are different sizes. I lined up the left side, but the right side hangs over about 3/4". So these weren't made with the same screen. Interesting right? When we look at the tags I think we can see what happened.

I think Blue Grape was subbing out their work. The Blue Grape tag is on the correct shirt. Who knows who made the other one. The quality is better on the BG one too. What it sounds like is BG subbed it out to someone, they made a batch of them wrong, and BG took the work back from them. If you look at the Mark Athletic tag you can see that it's made in Mexico. Wonder if the shirt screening place was in Mexico too. Seems logical. Shame on you Blue Grape!

Movielife's Unknotted Strings

I'm getting pretty kookie with these titles lately. I don't know, just trying to inject some fun into this damn thing. I think I'm going get a little intelligent in this one. Just feeling the smart shit tonight. Not too smart mind you, it's already 930pm. We're getting close to my bed time.

Let me set the stage. About 3 months ago I won a sweatshirt on ebay off a dude that's suppose to be a decent dude in the current hardcore clothing scene. No idea how he came upon this hoody, but he had it, and was selling it, and I wanted it. Bad. It was the Movielife Switchblade Comb sweatshirt from Revelation. Well I won it from him for about 60 bucks. It cost me an arm and a leg yeah, but I was happy because you don't see them often. When I got the shirt though, I was far from happy. The front was completely stained and it was unwearable. It never mentioned anything about that in the auction so naturally I wanted to return it cause I couldn't wear it. He wasn't at all keen on me returning, but in the end he said fine. Now at this point I should have probably asked for my cash back first before returning it. But that would never fly. So I sent it back with a tracking code. Never heard from the dude again. Still haven't heard from him. I had to start a paypal claim, and paypal came through for me once I produced the tracking code. That shit boggles my mind btw. All I need to do is give them a tracking code that works. No address, no contents, no nothing. Just a tracking code that works. Well whatever. It took a month, but I got my cash back. Guy was a total scumbag. Very unfortunate.

That was part 1 to the switchblade saga...damn that would have been a good title too. Well anyway. So part 2, which is actually the conclusion to the saga, is thus. 3 weeks ago I'm flipping around and I see a dude who is selling a mountain of really cool stuff. Most of which he claims is new or almost new. In scanning his auctions I find 3 sweatshirts I want really bad. One is from Shutdown. That one said it was an XXL but fits like a XL. I figured my bro would want that one. So I won it for him. The next was a Stryder sweathshirt. You might remember my post from a couple weeks ago where I talked about the Stryder Test Press, well this sweatshirt looked mint and I really wanted it. Auction said it was washed only a couple times. I won that one for like 10 bucks. The last one he had was of course the Movielife Switchblade Comb. This particular auction said it was brand new never worn. UHM never worn? For real? This shirt hasn't been made in a while and it's pretty rare, so I was sorta skeptical about it never being worn. But all in all, it really just meant that it was mint. Well I won that one too. 45 bucks! That's a decent price I think. Especially in the winter.

Looks nice right? It felt pretty new too. You know that new feeling? Well for the next couple of days I couldn't get my mind off this shirt. I really wanted to know if it was new and obviously there was no possible way to know for sure. Someone did tell me it wasn't very old, only 2 years or so. I didn't believe that. But if it were true, I could believe it was new. So I contacted someone at Rev and double checked the last time they printed the sweatshirt. He said 6 years ago was the last time they printed it. That's a long time for a shirt to be hanging around unworn. And this isn't some collectors item shirt. Rare sure, but not collected. So I was starting to think maybe it has been worn a couple times or so, and was just in great condition. Then I noticed something. Something that I had not thought of until that moment. Something that I actually stood back and said, "Nick, you are one smart mother fucker." The string on the hood wasn't knotted. ahHAH! The string wasn't fucking knotted! On every sweatshirt I own, the string is knotted. Why? Cause when you wash a sweatshirt with an unknotted string, you usually find it loose in your laundry basket. Blingo! It's the little things that make me happy at 10pm on a friday.

Uncensored! Right Right, forgot about that...

Totally forgot to do the blog post on that uncensored comment I made in my November Coming Soon post a few weeks back. Right, let's do that.

1990 was the year of the merch for Danzig. They made an insane amount of stuff for not only Danzig the band, but Misfits, and Samhain. In the November Coming Soon post I talked about a Samhain shirt made in 1990. On the back it had the album title written on a slight angle. Well that year Glenn also licensed some gear out for Danzig the band. One shirt in particular is extremely hard to find. The Demon on the Cross T-shirt which is the design used for the vhs tape put out that same year. That shirt in XL can bring a hefty price tag regardless of condition. I bid 100+ on one about 2 months ago and was outbid. I was pretty pissed off about that. One reason is I missed out on a really great condition shirt that I just love. And two cause I really couldn't bring myself to spend more than that on that T-shirt. Sure I love it, but I don't wear T-shirts and my whole reason for collecting, is to have a shirt that I could wear if I wanted too...if that makes sense. Not sure if it does, but whatever. BASICALLY, I was bummed. So I decided I was just going to buy a bootleg of the shirt. I found a girl who prints a lot of Danzig related boots, and I ordered it. Came in about a week later and I couldn't of been happier. 10 bucks plus shipping.

Sweet shirt. Love how simple it is. Love the artwork. I don't even mind that it's a single color cause the original was a single color.

I was content. I wore it under a zipper up one day and I really didn't see myself hunting down the real deal. Then about 3 weeks ago a legit XL got listed on ebay. When this got listed I knew that it would bring somewhere between 90-110. The condition wasn't mint or even excellent, but it was wearable. And that's what most people are looking for. Yes I know I don't wear T-shirts, but one day I probably will or my kids will, so this is very important to me. I decided to do something I never do. I contacted the guy and made him an offer to take it down. What made me do this? Well when I looked at the auction the title was "Danzig shirt". Yeah that's it, Danzig Shirt. It felt like he really didn't know what he had. Most of the time people will put RARE! in the title. Or at least the name of the shirt "Demon Cross" in it. This guy had nothing but Danzig Shirt. Pretty dumb. Then I checked out his other auctions. He had a bunch of odds and ends crap on there. Maybe 7 or 8 total auctions. Only 1 shirt though. Now some people might be thinking, "well he only listed one shirt cause he knows it's worth a bunch of cash and he needs money." Well yeah, that's an interesting thought. And I would agree if he titled the auction better. I do agree though that the dude needed cash. Odds and ends auctions like this scream, "Fuck I gotta pay the rent!" Considering all this I figured that, not only did the dude need cash, but he also had no idea what he had. So I messaged him and told him 60 bucks shipped. Dude took it down in a second and emailed me. 1 week later I got the shirt in...

You see the difference? The original design is larger. And obviously it has this...

OH yeah there's another difference. UNCENSORED!

You see the style there? Slight angle, white font, pretty much all the same. It's faded so I grabbed another shirt that was made with the uncensored logo on the back as well.

This logo is different though. It's smaller and on more of an angle. It also looks like a different font too. I actually think this shirt is a bootleg. It's old though cause it's ridiculously soft. And the tag is extremely small and very faded. Usually tags now a days are pretty big cause companies like to put their gaudy logos on them. You may remember a shirt that looks very similar to this one that I did a blog post on a couple months back. That one was made by Brockum for the Danzig III tour. You can see the color differences too. The boot is purple while the III shirt is baby blueish. Not sure which one I like better. Both are pretty incredible.

So that's where the uncensored thing comes from...well that's what I meant by Uncensored look. I don't exactly know what it means. I assume it means the VHS video that was put out that year, with the same artwork, was "uncensored". The VHS included videos that never got MTV air time, plus some interviews with Danzig members. Makes sense I guess.

Just In the Key of Time...Corny, I know.

Pretty strange and interesting story about this purchase. Back about 3-4 weeks ago I was flipping through the tests on ebay and noticed a whole bunch of Equal Vision releases. No nothing One King Down related. But there was something I was interested in, The Stryder - Masquerade In the Key of Crime. The Stryder, if you don't know, was a Long Island band from the late 90s to early 2000s. This band was formed from ex members of a band called Yearly. Maybe you've heard of this band from the Rookie Lot / Yearly split that goes for major dough. These two bands were extremely popular back in 98-99. And when both bands broke up, the members went onto to form some of the most important LI bands of the 2000s. Movielife, Crime in Stereo, Brand New, and The Stryder. Plus Eben from Yearly went on to join Saves the Day. Really incredible what these 2 small time bands became. Well back to The Stryder. So I was watching the test, all intent on bidding on it. Then it crossed 45 bucks a couple days before it was suppose to end. I thought to myself, "I'm going to have to bid 100 to get this thing. I don't think it's worth it." So I just decided to let it go. Normally I'm not like that. Especially with rare LI stuff. But this is 2000+ LI stuff. I'm not that nuts about 2000+. So it ended without another bid and I was left wondering how much I would have needed to spend to pick it up. Wait....HUH? You didn't win it? Correct, I didn't win it. So how did I get this one? Well the guy that was selling this stuff had a million auctions up. Must of been 300 items. I won a couple of shirts from him. One being a rather cool Revelation long sleeve from the 90s. And my buddy Brian won, if I remember correctly, a Texas is the Reason 12". Well the seller contacted him after he won that record and said he had another Stryder test and asked if he wanted it for 40. Brian immediately emailed me and I jumped on it. HEYO! What luck right? I mean out of all the people he could have messaged, he messaged Brian. So who knows how much I saved. I assume 20 bucks or so. In truth, when the first auction crossed 45, I really thought it was going to get bid on a few more times. This is why I decided to not get involved. Worked out well in the end I guess.

I think I may have said this before but I like tests from certain plants more than others. Mainly because of the label they put on the record. The Rainbo label is awesome. I like the Erika label better cause it's that really cool bright yellow. But still the Rainbo label is right up there at the top of the list. It's also a million times better than some cheap ass white label test. Plants really need to invest in a slick looking label. For real.

Here's the original record. I don't have it on green. Had a chance to get it a few times and was out bid. I'm not that bothered by it I don't think. I'm happy to have the test.

Been trying to get some posts up here about stuff non danzig related. May have to jump back to Danzig though cause the shit just keeps coming in. Incredible stuff too. And I need to hit the Top 20 posts again. AND the 1 year Anniversary is coming for Limited Pressing. We have some amazing announcements coming for that, so keep your eyes peeled!

Well...S, I Got Another One.

Let's back track a little bit here. The morning before I went to the airport Tom and I went to Wells Tipley's place to talk some vinyl/business. Wells owns Traffic Violation Records, which if you've been reading my Top 20 posts, you know that they were one of the most important labels to ever come out of long island. Currently he does 86'd Records and Fanzine and he's in a punk band called Rations. One of the interesting things about his band is Brian from Lamagna is in it...I'm really going to go deep here on the LI history. Lamagna was a really great, but short lived band, from the 90s that had Steve Scapgrace on mic. Scapegrace was...hahaha I'm done, I'm done. Sorry. Well yeah so Lamagna put out a 7" on Wreck-age. I have it on black....well I did have it on black. And I needed it on grey. Very hard record to find. Yes Marcus, you have it, I know, thanks. So while talking with Wells I mentioned that I needed that Lamagna on grey big time. He said he had it, and offered to trade it to me for the black. WORD!!!???? So sick.

And while I was there Wells also hooked me up with the new Rations 12"

The insert, which you can see there in the photo, is actually a book. I think this is the fanzine part of 86'd Records and Fanzine. I should ask him about that. Maybe he wants to do this sort of thing with every release. Seems like it could be cool. This record is also 1 sided. The other side is silk screened.

Now the last thing I'd like to talk about IS THIS!!!

WOOWOWOWOOWOOWOOW that is the most insane living room accessory I've ever seen in my fucking life! God damn talk about jealous. Wells, you're the man. I have nothing else to say.

2 Steps Closer - Wreck-age Collection

So my girlfriend went to Atlanta on thursday, and I was suppose to grab her from the airport on saturday afternoon, then instead of heading right to long island for the rest of the weekend, she said it would be better if we just stayed at her place in brooklyn. Now I'm not a big city person. I like the quiet. Meaning, I don't like hipsters playing bongo drums outside my window at 430 in the morning on a damn sunday. But hey, it is what it is. So here I am at Laguardia airport waiting for her plane to come in and I get this email from Arthur Shepherd. To put it plainly, I jumped out of my skin. If you're not familiar with the name, I suggest you check out his site. He was the guitarist for Mind Over Matter, singer/guitarist for Errortype 11(s/t!), and was in Bad Trip for a short 2 year stint. Currently he's the singer/guitarist for God Fires Man which is a post hardcore band that sounds a lot like Errortype 11. So if you're pissed off that E11 is no more, then go check them out. Well we had talked about a month ago about some stuff he was looking to part with, and for a while I thought he changed his mind. Hence the jumping out of skin part! These days it's very tough to get me excited. I mean, If you haven't noticed, I'm running out of records to buy. But this email definitely had some juice to it. Ton of great stuff. Now I knew that Arty lived in the city, but I wasn't exactly sure where. So I emailed him back with a couple of the records that I wanted. I also told him I could pay him cash and that I'd be in Brooklyn for the weekend. He emailed me back pretty quickly and let me know he was working literally down the block from my girl's place. Said he'd bring the records to work and I could stop by. Finally a good reason to go to the city! So let's take a look at a couple of these babies.

The first one is from the band Irony of Lightfoot. This was a long island band from the mid 90s that had a pre-sons of abraham Neil Rubenstein on the mic. Ridiculously good band, that I still miss to this day. If I could have either a SOA reunion or a IOL reunion, I'd pick Irony every time and 4 times on sunday at 3pm. Well the colored versions of their 2 7"s are so insanely tough to find. I need them both, well I did until I got one of them from Arty.

Wreck-age made 200 of these. Don't know how many are on black but I bet it wasn't more than 750. Great artwork on the insert. There was also a cool sticker in the sleeve. Not sure if this came with the release or not.

The other record I grabbed from him was something I've been looking to pick up for ever, but could never find it. What a pain in the ass this record has been. Yuppicide - You've Been Warned on white. Only 250 of these were made. 2. 5. 0.! I mean what the hell? They made 3000 on black ahhaha!!! Totally crazy.

Love this band so much. They've been doing some reunion shows lately. And they also put out a double cd discography. Hopefully they get it out on vinyl. I bet someone in Germany will make it happen.

So I'm close. Real close. Here's what I need to complete the Wreck-age collection

WAR011 MIND OVER MATTER HECTIC THINKING 7" PINK MARBLE
WAR014 YUPPICIDE SHINEBOX 12 GOLD
WAR024 MILHOUSE MODERN PROBLEMS 7" GREEN MARBLE
WAR026 LAMAGNA CEREMONY 7" GREY
WAR027 IRONY OF LIGHTFOOT IBEX 7" BLUE MARBLE

But actually this isn't completely true. I'll explain why in my next blog post.

P.S. Arty still has a bunch of stuff that he'd let go. Lot of Long Island stuff. Really rare colored stuff. If you're interested drop me an email nick at limitedpressing dot com.

November Coming Soon

With November just around the corner, bringing with it my 32nd birthday I might add(jhshawkosvkaki), I thought I'd post a shirt I picked up recently. The shirt in question is Samahin - November Coming Fire from 1990. This is my favorite album Samhain did. I think most fans would agree with that as well. I also consider this the last real album, cause Final Decent was sort of a jumbled mess with all the different people in the band, the overdubbing, beat boxing drum machine bullshit, and the fact that they spread the recording out over like 4 years. Never liked when bands did that. I think an album should be recorded in a timely manner. OpIvy - Energy being a great exception I guess. Well back to the shirt. This one was part of a 5 shirt purchase I made from a guy in the netherlands. Great guy who had a buy it now on ebay for 8 shirts, two of which had some condition issues, and one I already had which is the 4p LS. So I decided to pass on those 3 and just grabbed the other 5. Which all happened to be in mint condition. It's actually incredible how great of condition they were in. So here's number 1.

Shirt is so damn crisp. Black as hell still too. This one was done by Giant. It's on the small side, but I think I could pull it off. I probably couldn't wear it to Seport cause I always feel like I swallowed a bag of sand after that, but maybe to work or something. The print is perfect which totally amazes me.

This is the original shirt they printed in 1990. Both Giant and Brockum licensed these rights from Glenn. Not sure how the Brockum one held up, but this one feels brand new. The only other time they printed this that I know of is 2000. I just recently picked that version up for Tom for like 20 bucks shipped. Great deal I think.

Love that "Uncensored" style skewed back logo. Well I guess the Uncensored style is actually the November Coming Fire style cause this came first. Wait, you probably have no idea what I'm even talking about when I say Uncensored style. OK next post I'm going to explain the Uncensored logo on the back. And that post will hopefully come soon. I know I've been slacking. ANNNDD I know it seems like I apologize every time I post. But between work, LP, and hanging with the girlfriend, it's tough to find a spot. But I got to get back into the groove. Especially because I was asked to start doing a weekly spot on a different blog. More info on that when it happens, but I can tell ya I was pretty honored when asked cause I read this site every damn day and it's so top notch. Till then, later!
