Clockwise - Dead End - Clear

Ok back to that giant lot I got back in the 90s. This is a band not very well known to most. They stopped playing right before things got out of control on Long Island, but they're one of the best. I call this 7" Dead End because it says it on the A side of the record and on the backside of the sleeve. Truthfully I don't even know if that's it's official name. You know, now that I think about it, I didn't get this particular 7" in that lot. I got a black one, which is actually been released by Motherbox on their merchdirect store. I think I gave the link in the Tripface 7" post. This one I got a few years after I think, possibly in a trade. I don't trade much now, but back in the 90s I was always flipping lots for rare LI stuff. Trading is weird for me now. I have 90% of what I want, and not many people have that final 10%. That 10% is basically test presses of obscure records from NY and LI. This is all I really collect now a days. Plus I don't want a list trolling around the internet of what I own. Bahh that gets me all nervous and shit.
Sooooo if you're into Inside and Silent Majority I think you'll like this band. I think MD has the 7" repress for like 4 bucks plus shipping. Plus while you're there you can get the Inside cardboard cover 7".

Some other cool info about Clockwise. Their singer General George Fullan, LIHC OG, had a record label for a while called General Records. They put out one of the best compilations I've ever heard called Blood Sweat and Tears. Now George owns General Studios in Douglaston NY http://www.myspace.com/generalstudios Bayside recorded most of The Walking Wounded there.

So what should I do next time...no clue really. I'll stick with the big lot though. Maybe go with something from Quicksand.

Sons of Abraham - Termites in His Smile - Aqua

I totally forgot to post this! Damn, I need to start posting more. Sons of Abraham was a late 90s Jewish hardcore band that spawned from 2 members of Glassjaw, Justin Beck and Todd Weinstock. Abraham is considered the father of Israel in the Jewish religion, and Termites in His Smile comes from....yeah, I have no clue where that came from. But I'm pretty sure it has something to do with false wooden teeth. It sucks that this band only put out a demo, split 7 w/ Indecision, and this LP. But then again, every band I love barely put out any music. This is the downside to hardcore music. The upside is that there's thousands of bands you can find out there to fall in love with. I've always wondered what it would be like to love a band like Genesis, or The Beatles. With these, and many others, there's just an endless supply of music to soak up. Is this why we collect? Because we need every little scrap of history we can find? Not sure about that, but it's something to think about.
As with a lot of records I own, I don't remember how I came to own them. I want to say I bought it on ebay, because I get most of my rare stuff there. But I have only had an ebay account since 2001, and for some reason I think I owned this before then. Well either way it's a great record, and really fun to listen to some of the lyrics. I know a bunch of Christian Hardcore bands, and even if you don't believe in what they say, you don't think it's weird or out of the ordinary. But when you listen to SOA, and hear lines like, "No presents for Christmas..." It really hits you how little you know about one of Earth's oldest, and still practiced, religions.

We gather each piece till the puzzle is complete

Overthrow - Empowerment Cover-Up

Overthrow was a Long Island hardcore band from 96-01. I would consider them a political band. They put together a lot of really cool show memories for me. And for now, the only way for me to repay them for that is to wax poetic about their releases.
This 7" was their first and was released in 97. It's mainly a straight up mid/late 90s LI/NY hardcore record. Which I love. But truthfully, it doesn't hold a candle to their full length, React, that was released on Triple Crown. This album is on my Top 10 Best Albums Never Released on Vinyl list. And possibly in my top 5...but that's a decision for a later time. Their sound as a band tweaked just a little when they did this album and it just made them so damn good. As I said before they were straight up hardcore. But on this album they added a little bit of pop/punk, a little more of that infectious sing along style, a little more speed, and it was perfect. To this day I dream of what could have been with this band. Not sure if they or anyone really realizes how good they were in 99 on that full length. Triple Crown is kind of funny. I believe they have some real foresight into what will and/or could become great. I think a lot of us believed Anterrabae were to become great before Matt and Neal left. And I think they might have thought the same about Overthrow. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I hope everyone who reads this checks out their Myspace page. There's an incredible surprise on there for any of you who miss this band.
