Tripface - This Foundation - Clear - Exit Records

Here's another record from that giant lot of 7"s I purchased from a long islander back in 97/98. Tripface was a great band who never got their due. I also have this in black. This I believe was the only 2 colors pressed. Unfortunately I will probably never know for sure because the list of Exit Records releases, that I've been trying to obtain for nearly 6 years, still alludes me. A lot of people collect Revelation, No Idea, Deathwish, Sub Pop, but I collect Exit/Wreck-Age. Why? Cause these are the bands I fell in love with when I started to listen to hardcore back in the early to mid 90s. I like a lot of vinyl, but nothing gets the juices flowing like a very rare Long Island record. I've been known to do some crazy things for a piece of vinyl from a band I grew up listening to. Recently one of my vinyl dreams came true when I purchased an Indecision - Unorthodox Test Press. Only 2 were made and I'm being told that Justin MPB, the owner of the other, can't find his and hasn't seen it for some time. But we're getting off topic I think. Tripface had their discography put out a few months back by an old LI label reborn from the ashes, MotherBox Records. This label was responsible for a few really good releases that are being repressed. I'm not a fan of repressing exact copies, so I hope that MBR is putting a twist on these records to make sure everyone knows they aren't the 1st press. I don't think the TF Discography will come out on vinyl unless they do some serious CD selling. And this is a very small label so I doubt it will happen. But one can pray...or if you're the owner of the only unorthodox test press....hope.
Still nothing on my little 7" contest. The hint was "You're one of us, You're one of us, we accept you!" I guess I'll just have to tell everyone now...damn. Sons of Abraham. A great band that features Todd and Justin from Glassjaw. Ok I will do a SOA post next time, and I guess something from MotherBox after that. Damn I was really hoping to give away a Warzone LESC 7" w/ the lion attacking a horse cover, but I guess not...pfff yeah right. See Ya!

Ink and Dagger - Love is Dead - White

Here's the Ink and Dagger - Love is Dead 7". You don't see this around as much as you did about 6 or 7 years ago. It use to be all over ebay, and I wish I would have predicted how rare it would become. Some of the interesting things about this record is, one, that it's their first release, and two that it came with this tombstone insert that gets stuck in the cover. You can see it in the picture. It's one of the weirdest designs I've ever seen, but definitely innovative. I actually got to see these guys on long island a long time ago. They were all duded up in make up and stuff. One of the first bands that I ever saw do this sort of theatrical type performance. I saw Gwar once in the mid 90s and of course they took it to an all time high. IAD wasn't anything like that though. Gwar's show is more impressive then their music. But IAD music was better than their show. Their show just added to the weird allure of it. It was kinda like when I saw Dillenger Escape Plan back in the 90s and they had 2 guys dressed up like clowns running through the crowd with strob lights going.
So how did I get hold of this record. Well back when I first started collecting I made a very big purchase off someone on Long Island and this was part of it. I think I bought like 100 7"s from him and I paid about 90 bucks. The list of 7"s in that lot was pretty impressive. And I think it would be a cool little trip down memory lane if I revisted a few of the rarer ones. So next time, let's do a Long Island band.
P.s. Some of you might have noticed that I didn't explain, you're one of us, you're one of us! Well it's not from Ink and Dagger obviously. No one got it, so I thought I would give the next line in the song and if someone gets it, then I will send them a 7" and then do the post on the record that the hint is from. Let's recap this game so everyone understands. I'm going to be doing posts on the records from the 100 count lot I bought back in the late 90s, and while I do that, I will keep giving hints on this other record. If someone figures it out, I will do a quick little post on it, and send the winner a 7".
Ok here it is, "You're one of us! You're one of us! We accept you!"

Orange 9mm - S/T - Salmon - LTD <150

Orange 9mm was one of those seriously incredible bands that never got their due because they were in the post-hardcore genre that got basically crushed by the grunge take over of the mid 90s. A lot of bands got crushed during that short era. It’s really too bad. But what I believe is more interesting about the squashing of this entire genre, is the fact that Orange 9mm was one of the very few bands that also stood along side bands like RATM, F451, and Downset. This is because they were rapcore, as well as post-hardcore. How did Downset survive and Rage make it huge? Because they didn’t have that sound, that completely easily recognizable sound that all P-H bands had. So many amazing bands were ground to dust by the grunge freight train. Bands I loved like Quicksand, Day in the Life, and the one I’m discussing here, Orange 9mm. Another interesting thing about this record is the fact that it’s a 12” with only 4 songs on it. A 12” demo if you will. This whole record pressing, from the top down, is a collectors dream. Everything they did on this thing got screwed up. For one this is Salmon, and there shouldn’t even be salmon. There should only be 300 orange swirl. This happens sometimes when colors mix. Orange and white turned to solid salmon. Salmon is the rarer of the 2 colors. There is also a couple other pressing problems I will discuss later.
So the purchase…well the one pictured above I bought on ebay a few years ago I think. It’s really annoying that they only put out 2 pieces of vinyl, that I know of that is. One being this 12” demo and a 7” called Glistening, which I believe is a bootleg. I think it’s a bootleg because the last song was cut short, which usually means they didn’t make any test presses. Granted I have never known anyone besides me that owns this 7”, so mine might be a rare pressing that was released before they caught the problem. If anyone has this 7” please contact me.
One last cool thing about this record is that is has one of the rarest mistake pressings every made by Revelation Records. The story starts with the intention of pressing black for the final press. Black is kind of common on later pressings, when they're not sure of how many they will sell. But there was another mistake, they made Dark Green instead black. It even gets more interesting…a few were made in light green, RevRecs says only 3. I believe this count is incorrect. I recently acquired a copy of this record. And the original owner told me he bought it from Utopia, which is basically a poor mans Hot Topic here on Long Island. So if he bought this in a store, I guess it's possible that a few were released to the public by accident. But let’s also not forget that since Orange 9mm started on Long Island, there was definitely a good chunk of the pressing sent here. And besides even that, in my 12 years of collecting, I’ve never known or heard of someone owning another. That being said, this is probably the only one that snuck by the sticky hands of Kevin Finn.

So what do we do next? I kind of tied off the end of this long connecting run of records with this one. Ended with a bang I think too. So maybe I start fresh next time. Begin a new run of records. I think I have the perfect one in mind too.
